Aluminium Window Grilles in Singapore

Aluminium casement sliding window grilles installed in an HDB flat in Singapore

Aluminium window grilles are powder-coated security grilles fitted to HDB, BTO, condominium and landed windows in Singapore. Unlike mild steel, aluminium does not rust in humid coastal air, and it weighs roughly a third as much, so it puts far less load on window frames. Endo Grilles installs them from $190 per window, fitted, with a typical four-room flat completed in a single day.

We are a BCA-registered contractor and have secured more than 5,000 homes across Singapore since [year founded]. Every installation follows HDB’s window grille guidelines, including the 10 cm maximum gap, and we handle the paperwork.

Aluminium, mild steel or invisible grilles: which suits your home?

Most Singapore homeowners are choosing between three options. Aluminium wins on maintenance, mild steel on upfront cost, and invisible grilles on view.

Matching the grille to your window type

Sliding windows

The standard HDB sliding window takes a fixed aluminium grille mounted inside the frame. Bars run horizontally at a 10 cm maximum spacing so the window still slides freely behind them. This is the most common configuration in flats and the least expensive.

Casement windows

Casement panels swing outward, so the grille needs a hinged section that opens with them for cleaning and escape. We fit a lockable openable panel; you keep access to the outer glass without removing anything.

Top-hung and service yard windows

Kitchen and service yard windows sit in the wettest, most corrosive part of the flat. Aluminium is the right material here: the powder coating holds up against detergent, condensation and drying laundry where mild steel begins to bloom rust within a couple of years.

Cat-proof and child-safe configurations

For cat owners we design and fabricate our aluminium bar spacing to 5 cm / 2 inches and can add a mesh backing so a cat cannot squeeze through or get a paw caught. Say so when you enquire and we will quote the cat-proof spec.

HDB and BCA rules you need to know

HDB sets out what you may and may not do to your windows under its Renovation Guidelines for Window Works. Two points decide most grille jobs. First, all window installation and replacement work must be done by a BCA-approved window contractor listed in HDB’s directory — homeowners cannot use any contractor they like, and using an unlisted one puts you in breach. Second, replacing full-height windows, including three-quarter-height and bay windows, is not permitted except where a damaged frame requires complete replacement.

Grille work itself sits under HDB’s windows-and-grilles guidelines rather than the window-replacement rules, and a renovation permit may be required depending on the scope of your job. We check that against your flat before quoting and prepare any submission on your behalf. If your condominium management requires an approval, we supply the drawings and specifications.

BTO service yard grilles: HDB approves the design, not just the contractor

If your flat is a BTO completed after July 2007, you cannot choose your own service yard grille design. HDB specifies a set of approved patterns and your grille must match one of them. The rule exists to keep the external appearance of a block consistent, which is why it applies to the service yard — the one window that faces the common corridor or the outside of the building. Estates including Punggol and Sengkang are covered.

Windows themselves must also match the originals HDB installed, in type, colour and proportion.

Aluminium window grille FAQs

Are aluminium grilles stronger than steel?

Steel is the stronger metal by weight, but a correctly specified aluminium grille is more than strong enough to resist forced entry through a residential window, and it will not corrode. For Singapore’s humidity, aluminium is the better long-term choice.

Do I need HDB approval to install window grilles?

Grilles must comply with HDB’s window works guidelines. Whether a renovation permit is needed depends on the scope of work, and HDB requires the work to be done by a BCA-approved window contractor from its directory. We check the permit position for your flat and handle any submission. Read HDB’s own guidelines under Renovation Guidelines for Window Works.

Can aluminium grilles be installed in a BTO before handover?

Installation happens after you collect your keys. Most BTO owners book us alongside renovation so grilles go in before they move in.

Will the powder coating fade?

Coating on a west-facing or sea-facing window takes the most UV. Ours is warranted for 18 years against fading and peeling; in practice a wipe-down every few months is all the upkeep it needs.

Which colours are available?

Black, white, grey and brown are stocked. Custom RAL colours are available from $30 extra per window and add 3 days to fabrication.

Do you serve my area?

Send us a photo of your windows on WhatsApp and we will come back with a price, usually the same day. Free measurement, no obligation.
